Spiti Valley Packages from Ahmedabad

Hello, People! How are you all doing?

Today, let’s explore one of the most beautiful and stunning destinations in North India—famously known as “The Middle Land.”

If you’re already trying to guess the place, hold on! Let me reveal it to you. It’s located in the majestic state of Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of approximately 13,841 feet. Yes, it’s none other than Spiti Valley!

This cold desert in the mountains is sprinkled with patches of greenery, dry yet magical landscapes, a chilling breeze, and peaceful villages that hold captivating beauty. Spiti, meaning “The Middle Land,” is deeply rooted in Buddhist culture—you’ll find monasteries at every turn, filling the valley with peace and spiritual energy.

The local architecture and structures are built with “Mani” stones, and the Buddhist temples are whitewashed, adorned with prayer flags fluttering in the cold air. The valley echoes with the calming chant of “Om Mani Padme Hum”, which means “Behold the Jewel in the Lotus”—a blessing of peace and prosperity to the land.

The famous author Rudyard Kipling, in his book “Kim,” once described Spiti as “A world within a world,” a place so pure and serene that even gods would want to reside there. And believe me, even today, the peace in Spiti can be truly felt.

Spiti River

Spiti is called “The Middle Land” because it lies between Tibet and India. The name comes from the Spiti River that flows through the valley. The region is surrounded by Tibet to the east, Ladakh to the north, Lahaul to the southwest, Kullu to the south, and Kinnaur to the southeast.

Being a high-altitude cold desert, Spiti is home to many ancient villages and monasteries. One such gem is Tabo Village, famous for its centuries-old monastery. Tabo is the largest monastic complex in Spiti, consisting of nine temples, 23 chortens, a monk’s chamber, and a nun’s chamber—truly a spiritual marvel.

Another must-visit is Dhankar Village, also known for its ancient fort. It is located 7 km off the main road near Schichling village. The Dhankar Monastery, perched at an altitude of 3,370 meters, showcases the brilliant engineering skills of the Spitian people. Nearby, you can also visit Dhankar Lake and Pin Valley.

Not far from Kaza is the breathtaking Kee Monastery, which sits on a hill shaped like a volcano. The monastery is a maze of dimly lit rooms, narrow corridors, ancient wooden columns, and beautiful stone steps. Inside, you’ll discover elaborately carved wooden doors leading to prayer halls filled with thangkas (Tibetan paintings), murals, ancient musical instruments, and a library of sacred Tangyur texts.

Located just 6 km from Kee is Kibber Village, one of the highest inhabited villages in the valley, situated at an altitude of 4,205 meters. Kibber is a popular base for high-altitude treks. Nearby, the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary—spanning 1,400 sq. km—is home to fascinating wildlife like blue sheep, ibex, and even the elusive snow leopard.

Lastly, you must visit Chandra Taal Lake, also known as the Moon Lake. This magical high-altitude lake lies at 4,300 meters above sea level. Its crystal-clear waters change color throughout the day and are surrounded by snow-capped peaks and open meadows. The lake gets its name from its crescent moon shape.

Chandra Taal is open only from June to October due to heavy snowfall in winter. It’s a favorite camping spot for trekkers, nature lovers, and photographers.
